What a crazy year it has been! I can reflect back and say that my first year of teaching was literally running on adrenaline and I loved it. My second year of teaching was a whirlwind in both my personal and professional life. Our family's prayers were answered when we discovered we were expecting baby #2 in the spring. This made teaching slightly different as I was combating the joys of morning sickness and since eating seemed to alleviate the symptoms, I constantly had a snack in class. Therefore, my "no eating in the science classroom" went out the window. If I could eat, so could my students. Thankfully, the bend in the rule did not get out of control! Then, much to my surprise, I was informed my building administrator nominated me for the Kansas Horizon Award. Crazy enough, my nomination made it all the way to the state level and I was honored to be selected as one of the winners. In February, I was able to attend the Kansas Exemplary Educators Network (KEEN) conference in Topeka where some of the state's leading educators host learning sessions about various topics. The majority of these sessions are hands-on and the content learned can be easily applied to the classroom. I truly enjoy connecting and learning from other colleagues. Fast-forward a month later and our baby made an early entrance into this world - a whole month early. We were overjoyed at learning we added another daughter to our family, Liesl Harmony. This threw a slight wrench in my plans, as I had to hand over my classroom much earlier than expected to my long-term sub. Nothing like sending frantic text messages from the hospital room!
Since three months have passed, I am getting the itch to go back to work. Mind you, I am loving the teacher perk of having maternity leave run into summer break, but I am ready to get back into the mix. Let's make year 3 amazing!
